Vaping Associated with Severe Lung Disease in Louisiana

Posted by District on 8/30/2019

The Louisiana Department of Health Emergency Operations Center (LDH EOC) has released a Louisiana Health Advisory Network (LA HAN) message on "vaping” and its association with severe lung disease in Louisiana.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating nearly 200 possible cases and one death reported from 22 states. While no single product has been implicated, patients reported using a variety of substances in vaping, including tobacco and THC.

Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue that worsens over days and weeks. Additional symptoms may include fever, chest pain, weight loss, nausea, and diarrhea. Patients are typically between the ages of 17 and 35.

More information has been posted on the Safe & Drug Free Schools "About Vaping" page.
