Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Julia B. Maitland. If you are not yet aware, I am the new principal. I am a member of St. Mary Parish and have dedicated 17 years in education as a teacher, facilitator, and administrator. I was previously the principal at Raintree Elementary before joining the Maitland team. I am eager to build a relationship with each and every one of you.
As the expectations of teaching children continually increase, it becomes more evident that we all need to work together as a team to ensure that all children reach their potential. In response to new protocols in education and in society, we believe that all of us – the school and the community – must work together in an extended family environment to ensure success for all our students. We invite you to be an active participant at Maitland through PTO, fundraisers, parent/family nights, and/or as a parent volunteer.
One of our top priorities is keeping you informed of what is happening at school. Up-to-date and additional information on academics and safety will be sent to you through weekly test papers, monthly newsletters/calendars, notes home, and electronic messages. Current information will also appear on our school’s website. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to give your child’s teacher or principal a call. All my decisions will be with each student’s best interest and safety in mind. I am excited to build our relationship as we embark on a new year.
This handbook is prepared to provide information on school policies and procedures at Julia B. Maitland. It is meant to supplement the Guide for St. Mary Parish Public Schools with further information that directly affects the day-to-day operations of our school. Any suggestions or recommendations for the improvement of this handbook will be appreciated. By working together in a spirit of cooperation, we will achieve our school mission to set high expectations where students learn, lead, and grow academically and socially. Please keep this handbook readily available during the school year. I am sure that it will assist you in answering many questions throughout the year. Updates and additional information will be sent to you through JCall/JText, our school’s website, and Facebook. Please feel free to review the Student Handbook which can be accessed on our school’s website. You can like us on Facebook: Julia B. Maitland. Please note that expectations, policies, and dates are subject to change.
On behalf of the faculty and staff, we would like to say thank you for a successful 2021-2022 school year. We are looking forward to an amazing 2022-2023 school year.
Sincerely,
Tonya Hills
Principal
