Digital Citizenship Curriculum: 10th Grade
St. Mary Parish Schools has implemented the Common Sense K-12 Digital Citizenship Curriculum, which is designed "to empower students to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in our digital world." At the 10th grade level, the school's English teachers are delivering face-to-face lessons that include videos, student handouts, and grade-level appropriate activities in an effort to educate our children about staying safe online.
Parents are invited to view all lessons by visiting the commonsensemedia.org website and locating the Digital Citizenship curriculum scope and sequence (https://www.commonsensemedia.org/educators/scope-and-sequence), the source of these lesson and handouts.
Here is an overview of the lessons taught at the 10th Grade level (called Unit 2):
For each lesson, the curriculum includes:
- A Family Tip Sheet, which provides adults with information that reinforces the lessons taught in class.
- A Student Activity Sheet, a worksheet that can be completed at home to promote discussion of the lesson's topic.
Note: The website also includes Spanish versions of these handouts.
The links to the Family Tip Sheet and the Student Activity Sheet (below) for each of the five lessons will be made available after each lesson is taught.
