Miss Lisa Durham
I'm Lisa Durham and am in my 7TH year as a special education teacher. I was born and raised in Morgan City and am a graduate of Morgan City High School (I bleed green). I went to Louisiana State University where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree in Communication Disorders (Ok, so maybe I bleed purple and gold, too!). I then decided I wanted to embark on a new journey and go abroad to teach English as a second language. In Spain, I worked in an elementary school for 8 months teaching Pre-K-6th grade students the English language. It was absolutely the best decision I have made thus far; the experience was incredible. I stayed a while after my contract ended just so I could enjoy their way of life a bit longer. The week I returned home from Spain, I was blessed to be hired as a special education teacher at MCHS where I taught for 4 years. During my time at MCHS, I began working on my certification in special education, which I completed and went on to complete a master's degree in December 2014. I decided I wanted to work with elementary-aged students, so I took a position as the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Special Education teacher in the Berwick School System. After some time there, I knew that Aucoin is where I really wanted to be for various reasons. I applied in attempt to fill the shoes of the former special education teacher at Aucoin and am grateful I was chosen to work with your children! I look forward to the years to come at Aucoin as it is where I plan to stay for the long term! I serve as the Liaison of the Special Education Department and the Positive Behavior Interventions & Support (PBIS) Leader at Aucoin.
