Grow Your Own Program

Pathway to Teacher CertificationThe St. Mary Parish School Board Grow Your Own (GYO) Program provides current paraprofessionals with a structured pathway to earn a bachelor’s degree in education and achieve teacher certification while maintaining employment within the district.

This initiative is designed to strengthen our local educator workforce by supporting individuals who already have classroom experience and a commitment to our students. Participants are able to:

  • Continue working in their current paraprofessional role while completing degree requirements.
  • Access financial assistance for tuition, fees, and other program-related costs (when available).
  • Gain hands-on classroom experience aligned with college coursework.
  • Transition into a certified teaching position upon successful program completion and state licensure.

The GYO program creates a direct pipeline for paraprofessionals to advance their careers while helping the district recruit and retain qualified teachers who understand the needs of our schools and community.
