Career & Technical Education

Preparing Students for the Future Through CTE

At St. Mary Parish Public Schools, Career and Technical Education (CTE) is more than just a set of courses—it’s a pathway to success. Our schools are actively implementing CTE programs that give students the chance to explore real-world career fields while gaining the knowledge and skills they need for the future. From hands-on experiences in healthcare, business, technology, and skilled trades to opportunities in family and consumer sciences, students are connecting classroom learning with practical applications. By partnering with local industries and aligning programs with Louisiana’s Jump Start 2.0 pathways, SMP Schools are ensuring that every student has the opportunity to graduate future-ready—whether their next step is college, career, or both.

Our Goals

  • Ensure that every high school and the Career Center offers clearly defined course progressions that align with LDOE College and Career Pathways, with an emphasis on expanding opportunities for students to earn Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs).

  • Expand student access to Work-Based Learning experiences—such as internships and apprenticeships—and strengthen partnerships with local businesses that support district priorities.

  • Provide ongoing curriculum resources and targeted professional development for CTE to enhance instructional quality, boost student outcomes, support Industry-Based Certification (IBC) attainment, and prepare students for both college and career pathways.
