  • Modified Phase 2: School Calendar Unchanged

Posted by District on 11/28/2020 9:00:00 AM
    From Dr. Bagwell:

St. Mary Parish Public School students will return to school Monday, November 30, as scheduled, under the state's Modified Phase 2 guidelines.

Gov. Edwards and BESE agreed that local school systems can continue to operate under Phase 3 guidelines as part of the Modified Phase 2 plans that will be in effect until Dec. 23.

To further support health and safety, the Maintenance Department conducted a thorough sanitation cleaning of all school buildings during the Thanksgiving holidays.  All public health procedures for addressing COVID-19 remain intact and will be strictly followed to keep students and staff healthy and safe at school.

We will continue to monitor public health data as we strive to provide our students with an exceptional education in these challenging times.

  • Holiday Thanks

Posted by District on 11/19/2020 3:00:00 PM

    From Dr. Bagwell:

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the students of St. Mary Parish Schools for their fortitude in adapting to mask wearing, social distancing, and other steps designed to keep them healthy. Certainly, these first few months of the school year have presented many challenges as we weathered the pandemic and hurricane season, but our students have shown that they are resilient and able to adapt quickly to change. I also want to thank parents for their patience and understanding as the school system cautiously navigated through new procedures and state reopening phases to safely open schools and keep the community informed along the way.

With the guidance and support of an incredible teaching staff and administrator leadership, our students are moving forward academically and have shown that learning continues no matter the method or classroom location. I have every confidence that they will continue to show academic gains as the year progresses and am grateful for all the extra time and efforts our educators have made to sustain learning both on-campus and virtually.

On behalf of the educational community of St. Mary Parish, I want to extend our wish for a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday. I urge you to continue to uphold mask wearing and social distancing measures during the holiday. We are grateful for the opportunity to educate St. Mary’s next generation, and we look forward to the return of our students on Monday, November 30.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Posted by District on 10/7/2020 11:00:00 AM

    From Dr. Bagwell:

The approach of Hurricane Delta as a major hurricane will necessitate the closure of all schools and offices of the St. Mary Parish School Board on Thursday, October 8. Students will be scheduled for distance learning in lieu of attending school on campus October 8, which will foster a continuation of instructional activities while families make preparations for the impending hurricane.

All offices and schools of the St. Mary Parish School Board will be closed on Thursday, October 8, and schools and offices will remain closed for the previously scheduled “fall break” on Friday and Monday. Students and staff will return to school on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

Additionally, the St. Mary Parish School Board meeting will be cancelled on Thursday, October 8, and rescheduled to Thursday, October 15, at 5:00 PM in the Evans Medine Board Room. An updated board agenda will be publicized prior to the meeting.

Parents should monitor school and district websites for ongoing coverage of the response to Hurricane Delta as events transpire. The safety and security of students and staff is of deepest concern, and we ask that all citizens take every precaution in preparing for this storm.
